What we can learn from flat-earthers
When NBA-Player Kyrie Irving said that he didn’t know if the earth was flat or not, he was under fire from all sides. He can take it because he doesn’t rely on being knowledgeable. He can knock down the game-deciding three in the Finals. That’s what he’s good at.
Do you remember the first time hearing about flat-earthers? It took me a while to find explanations that prove it’s roundness and then double check how refutable they are.
Where am I getting at? If you asked me before whether the earth was round or not, I’d confidently would have stated that it’s round. Although I hadn’t really made an effort to prove it to myself.
Turns out we’re quick to accept without internal argumentation, if the information fits with the storyline.
Have you ever wondered why you walk on the right side of the street? Why the solar system’s planets are on the same plane?
That’s why I’d like to thank all the flat-earthers. They are making it okay to say: “I don’t understand. I don’t know. I cannot explain it.”
Even if it was a few hundred years back that Galileo and others started asking questions, most of us aren’t that smart. Pareto is always useful, so let’s say 80% of us would probably live…
