Liebig’s Law of the Minimum

Mechanisms out of Context #1

Simply said

The law of the minimum was formulated by Carl Sprengel during his agricultural research. It states that the growth of a plant is limited by the scarcest needed resource. You can water your plant as much as you want, if it’s in the dark most of the time, it won’t prosper.

This has then been adapted to various other applications such as population growth or protein nutrition. The underlying idea stayed the same. A common visualization is the barrel analogy. The shortest barrel stave defines the maximum amount of water.

My take on it

Let’s try and apply Liebig’s law of the minimum to less material topics. Everybody's favorite nowadays, personal development, returns a little challenge. We can no longer clearly define an isolated resource. Because our mind can draw from memory if a “substance” is currently not available.

How your morning went, affects how the rest of the day will go. A great time with friends can let you lean towards a “high” for a week.
